Dr. Hala Alsoukhni‬‏

Head of Stem Cell Laboratory

Dr. Hala Alsoukhni is a consultant in Clinical Pathology with a subspeciality in hematopathology, bringing more than 15 years of experience in the field, currently serving as Head of Stem Cell Laboratory at the Military Cancer Center-Royal Medical Services. Graduated from Jordan University of Science and Technology-Faculty of Medicine in 2005, completed residency in clinical pathology/hematopathology at King Hussein Medical Center in 2011. She has completed fellowship in stem cell transplantation in Milano-Italy in 2018 and earned the Jordanian Board of stem cell processing and transplantation and later received advanced training in CAR T cell manufacturing in Cologne-Germany. She is the founder of Stem Cell Laboratory at the Jordanian Royal Medical Services, where she has played a leading role in advancing cellular therapy services. Dr. Hala continues to contribute to both clinical practice and research in the evolving field of regenerative medicine and actively involved in the first CAR T cell therapy trial in Jordan.

Hiromi Sakai received Ph.D. (D.Eng.) in 1994 from Waseda Univ., with a thesis titled “Hemoglobin-vesicles (HbV) as a molecular assembly”. In 1996-1998 he studied at Dept. of Bioengineering, UC San Diego, and evaluated the microvascular responses to HbV injection. After coming back to Tokyo, he studied stabilization and biocompatibility of HbV and evaluated in vivo safety and efficacy. In 2006 he received Ph.D. (D.Med.Sci.) from Keio Univ. School of Medicine. Dr. Sakai was a Lecturer and an Associate Professor at Waseda Univ. in 1998-2009, and at Waseda Bioscience Research Institute in Singapore in 2009-2013. From 2013 he has been the Professor of Chemistry, Nara Medical University. He is the chief investigator of the artificial red cells project, which has been supported by the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development: AMED since 2015. From 2019 he is the fourth president of the Society of Blood Substitutes, Japan.

Ikram Ben Amor is a professor of haematobiology at the Medical School of Sfax at the University of Sfax. She is currently the Director of the Regional Blood Transfusion Centre in Sfax, Tunisia. Her clinical and research interests include immunohematology, perinatal transfusion, transfusion safety, haemovigilance systems. Dr Ben Amor has also an interest to cell therapy and she actively contributed to the implementation of haematopoietic stem cell autograft in southern Tunisia She is Vice President of the Association of Hematologists of the South Tunisia (ADHES) and an active member of the Working Group on Transfusion within the Tunisian Haematology Society.. She also serves on the Technical Commission on Haemobiology at the Ministry of Health and on the Stem Cell Transplant Committee at Hedi Chaker Hospital in Sfax. Professor Ben Amor has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications and regularly participates in national and international scientific conferences. She is also involved in quality management initiatives in medical education, including projects related to ISO 21001 certification.

Obtained a Fellowship in Hematopathology (FRCPA) from Sydney, Australia. Additionally, he attained a Clinical Transfusion Medicine Fellowship from McMaster University & the Transfusion Medicine Diploma from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canadian (DRCPSC). He covers the Transfusion Medicine Services (TMS), the Therapeutic Apheresis, & Cellular Therapy services at KAMC. Finally, he is a member of multiple committees & research groups.

Dr. Maha Badawi, Associate professor of clinical hematology and transfusion medicine at the Faculty of Medicine in King Abdulaziz University. Director of Blood Transfusion Services Unit at King Abdulaziz University Hospital since 2018, and recently appointed as Chairman of the Department of Hematology. Certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in internal medicine, hematology, and transfusion medicine, and has a Master of Medical Education from King Abdulaziz University. Currently represents the Ministry of Education within the National Blood Banks Committee in the Saudi Health Council and is the Regional Director of the Eastern Mediterranean Region on the Board of the International Society of Blood Transfusion. Research interests include donor care, medical education, and quality improvement.

Dr. Mana Alshehri is a Senior Scientific Evaluation Expert at the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, specializing in the assessment of CMC sections, and the quality and safety of advanced cell and gene therapies. He previously worked as a scientist in cellular therapy and cancer research, focusing on developing innovative treatments for both liquid and solid tumors. His academic and industry experience spans the full spectrum from basic research to hands-on GMP manufacturing of cellular therapy products. Dr. Alshehri has held positions at leading international institutions including the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Harvard University), University of Rennes, University of Calgary, and University of Sheffield. He has received multiple prestigious awards and scholarships and serves on national and international scientific committees. He holds a PhD in Cancer Biology, multiple board certifications in biologics, biosimilars, regenerative medicine, and blood and biotherapies, as well as executive training certifications from Harvard Business School.

Dr. Mona Kandel, Blood Bank Registrar at the Blood Transfusion Services Center of the Ministry of Health, with more than 20 years of experience in blood transfusion medicine & blood bank services management. She holds certifications in quality management, assigned as scientific coordinator for Blood Transfusion Services Center Steering Committee, participates in the regulatory and oversight committees for hemovigilance and patients safety., obtained Certified Professional Certificate in Patient Safety (CPPS) that is awarded by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) USA, and she is regularly contributes to research and training initiatives related to blood services quality improvement and patient safety.

Dr. Murtadha Alsultan is a Consultant in Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) at King Fahad Medical City (KFMC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. With nearly a decade of experience, he specializes in treating pediatric blood disorders, cancers, and performing BMT for conditions like sickle cell disease and leukemia. Dr. Alsultan began his career in 2016 at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSHRC), followed by roles at Qatif Central Hospital (QCH) as a Consultant and Assistant Medical Director (2021–2022). Since August 2022, he has been a key member of KFMC’s Pediatric Oncology Department, delivering advanced care and contributing to research. Based in Riyadh, Dr. Alsultan is dedicated to improving outcomes for young patients through clinical expertise and compassionate care.

The Saudi International Conference on Blood Transfusion is a prominent scientific event at the national and international level, organized by the Blood Transfusion Services Center – Health Support Services Center, MOH. The conference aims to address the latest advancements and challenges in the field of blood transfusion, while promoting quality of care and patient safety.
